Tips for Sofa Placement and Layout

 Orientation

  • For houses facing West from East: Position the sofa to face South, or North if that’s not possible.
  • For houses facing East from West: Place the sofa in the Northwest, or Southwest if needed.
  • For houses facing North from South: Face the sofa toward the East, or Southeast if preferred.
  • For houses facing South from North: Position the sofa in the Northeast, or West if necessary.
  • For houses facing Northeast from Southwest: Face the sofa toward the Southeast, or East if that works better.
  • For houses facing Northwest from Southeast: Position the sofa to face North, or South if needed.
  • For houses facing Southeast from Northwest: Face the sofa toward the North, or Northeast if preferred.
  • For houses facing Southwest from Northeast: Position the sofa in the Southwest, or Northwest if necessary.

II. Grouping and Layout

Avoid arranging sofas in a way that creates a “broken arm” effect. Instead, think of creating a cozy bay-like setting, with extensions on both sides to form an embracing layout. Additionally, steer clear of lining sofas in a straight row. This helps enhance spatial depth and overall comfort.

III. Spatial Arrangement

  • Avoid placing sofas directly under beams to prevent a sense of oppression.
  • Ensure sofas are backed by a solid wall for a sense of stability and security.
  • Avoid positioning mirrors directly behind sofas to prevent discomfort in vision and psychology.
